If Google can’t find you, nobody can”

Here are 3 search engine optimisation strategies to help you improve your Google ranking.

1. Keywords in the key places.

Ensure your keywords are in the key places.

The first place to do this is in the title. It is also important that the keywords are different for each page.

It is also very important to ensure your keywords are in the URL (Link). This is very easy to do with WordPress as the URL will be the same as the page or post title. You can also change this if you wish i.e. the URL does not have to be exactly the same as page or post title.

Headings are also really important. You can check your page headings using Sitechecker.

2. Site Speed

Google takes site speed very seriously so make sure your website loads as fast as possible. You can check your site speed here.

You should also optimise all images before you use them on your website. You can ‘Save for Web’ with Photoshop or compress images with PowerPoint. You can also use Optimizalla.

With WordPress, you can add a plugin called Smush. Smush was also mentioned in our recent blog post about some of our favourite WordPress Plugins.

3. Mobile Friendly

Google also prefers sites that are mobile-friendly because so many people visit sites on mobile devices.

Bonus Tip – Secure Certs (https).

In 2014, Google announced that they would start taking secure certs into consideration when ranking websites.

Here is a great article by Mark Brinker outlining why your website needs a secure cert
